Ever wonder where your property tax dollars go? These eight Frequently Asked Questions about the City’s budget will provide the answers you have been seeking. 

1. What percentage of my property tax dollars go to the City of Parkland? 

About 23%.

2. Where do the rest of my property tax dollars go? 

The remaining approximately 77% is divided between countywide services, such as Broward County Public Schools, Broward County, the North Broward Hospital District, South Florida Water Management District, and other services.

3. Is the City of Parkland increasing its tax rate this year?

No, the tax or millage rate will stay the same as it was for the past 5 years at 4.2979 mills.

4. What is a millage rate? 

The millage rate is the tax rate used to calculate your property taxes. It represents the amount of tax payable per $1,000 of the assessed value of a property. A mill is equal to $1 per $1,000 of assessed value.

5. Who sets the City of Parkland’s millage rate?

Following a series of public budget workshops, the City Commission held two public budget hearings to decide the final millage rate for Fiscal Year 2026. 

6. Can the City Commission vote to increase the proposed millage rate on my TRIM Notice? 

No. The proposed millage rate on your TRIM Notice is the not-to-exceed millage rate for Fiscal Year 2026.

7. What are my city tax dollars used for? 

45.2%: Public safety and fire services
15.5%: Public works services
13.0%: General government services
7.4%: Other 
9.1%: Parks & recreation services
6.2%: Development services
3.6%: Debt service
