Broward Reads for the Record Storytime at Parkland Library (ages 2 -6)
Thursday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m.
Let’s celebrate our love for books and reading with music, movement, a craft and the story “See Marcus Grow" by Marcus Bridgewater, illustrated by Reggie Brown. Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience and celebrates and supports children’s early language and social-emotional development. The event– a day of celebration and fun– builds an intergenerational community through reading and raises awareness around the critical importance of early literacy and access to inclusive literature that fosters belonging and connection by reflecting children’s own experiences as well as showing the experiences of others. Parkland Library card required to register.

Cards and Cookies (age 5 and up)
Monday, February 9th at 3:30 p.m.
Come to the library and get ready for Valentine's Day! Create homemade cards for your friends and family using paper, ribbon, glue, sparkles, stickers and more. Get a cookie treat to take home. Parkland Library card required to register.
Chess Club (age 8 and up)
Tuesday, February 10th at 4:30 p.m.
Come to the library for a friendly game of chess. All levels welcome. Parkland Library Chess Club is for children ages 8 and up. Registration is required for each game date. Parkland Library card required to register.
Beyond the Books (ages 6-10)
Saturday, February 14th at 2:00 pm
New worlds with striking characters and impactful stories that can change your view of the world are key features that books can provide. Though they may only seem like a stack of papers bound together, books can greatly enhance the creativity, literacy, and relaxation in readers. Highschoolers Arya Parikh and Alicia Suen from Beyond the Books are aiming to help children realize the joy of reading and immerse them in new worlds they have never experienced! Parkland library card is required to register.
Crochet Class for Beginners (age 12 to 19)
Tuesday, February 17th at 4:30 p.m.
Cultivate your creativity and learn the art of crochet! This two-part crochet class is perfect for an absolute beginner. You will learn how to get started, basic pattern reading and the types of yarn and tools you should use. Yarn and hooks will be available to use during the class or you can bring your own. Parkland Library card required to register.
Toddler and Me Yoga (ages 1 to 4 years)
Friday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m.
Let’s flow! Teach your child the beginning skills of yoga and mindfulness while having a great time nurturing your connection with your child and meeting other parents. Miss Jana, a certified Baby & Toddler Yoga teacher with a master’s in education, artfully uses music, movement, stories, and play to develop body spatial awareness, motor skills, and linguistic expression. Participation in toddler yoga also encourages curiosity, independence, and social relationships. Children will engage in singing, dancing, fun play with props (parachutes, tunnels, puppets, bubbles, etc.), sensory play, and story time. Yoga for adults is infused throughout the class; however, bonding with little ones and other class participants is the focus of this class. Please bring a yoga mat and water. Gaming Unplugged (ages 8 to 12)
Saturday, February 21st at 10:30 a.m.
Participating in a board game club improves logic, problem solving, critical thinking skills, and more! It also allows children to give their eyes a break from screens and have conversations with their peers about a common activity, which fosters social and emotional skills. Board Game Enthusiast Maya Iyer is a 15-year-old student working to improve the minds of kids through a children’s board game club! Parkland Library card required to register.
Bricks and Books (age 5 and up)
Monday, February 23rd at 3:30 p.m.
Children ages 5 and up bring your imagination and Lego building skills to the library! Build with a buddy or work on your own. Parkland Library card required to register.
Happy Penguin Art (age 8 and up)
Tuesday, February 24th at 4:00 p.m.
Children will create a colorful background using cake tempera paints then use templates to trace and cut out penguins on black paper. We will add embellishments for the finishing touches. Parkland Library card required to register.
Reading with Finn (age 5 to 10)
Wednesday, February 25th at 3:30 p.m.
Come to the Parkland Library to practice your reading skills by reading to therapy dog Finn. This program encourages children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and furry friend who won’t mind if you make a mistake. Bring a book from home or choose one at the library. Each child will have the opportunity to read for about 5 minutes. Parkland Library card required to register.
