Artist of the Month: Christina Crowley
She is a South Florida artist specializing in watercolor, oil paint, pastels, and mosaics, with a focus on the natural world and my vibrant community. Christina’s artistic journey began over 30 years ago painting murals in South Florida after graduating from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in visual art and art history. In addition to creating art, she teaches watercolor and oil painting. Her goal is to create art that transcends time, serving as a historical record that connects future generations to our present, immortalizing the essence of South Florida’s beauty and culture. Her art will be on display February 2 to February 27, 2026.

The plot is based on the true story of Nathaniel Ayers, a musician who developed schizophrenia and became homeless. This film explores the profound friendship between Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez, played by Robert Downey Jr., and Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless musician played by Jamie Foxx.
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, February 9th
Tells the epic story of a former slave's life in rural Louisiana, from her childhood during the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, as recounted to a journalist on her 110th birthday, with Cicely Tyson delivering an iconic, Emmy-winning performance that spans over a century of Black American history, resilience, and the fight for freedom, from slavery's horrors to the hope of integration. Crafternoon: Bejeweled Heart (Adults)
Thursday, February 3rd at 2:00 p.m.
In this hands-on class, we will transform a simple craft foam heart into a unique, glittering work of art using a variety of decorative elements. We will focus on applying old costume jewelry to create a sparkling decoration, gift, or ornament. Parkland Library Card required to register.

Author Talk with Erika Wasserman
Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m.
Join Parkland resident and author Erika Wasserman for a lively behind-the-scenes presentation about her new book, Conversations with Your Financial Therapist. Erika will host an interactive discussion, answer audience questions, and share practical tools to improve your relationship with money. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Erika is one of only 100 Certified Financial Therapists in the country. Known as Your Financial Therapist, she makes money conversations feel human instead of heavy. Her new book, Conversations with Your Financial Therapist, published by Wiley and endorsed by Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran, gives people the scripts no one ever taught them for talking about money with confidence. Erika has worked with companies around the world and created the Let’s Talk Finances Conversation Cards to spark real, honest conversations at home. Parkland Library Card is required to register.

Sahaja Meditation (Adults and Teens)

Sahaja meditation is a simple, time-honored meditation that reduces stress and increases wellness. It brings better focus and helps people become more centered and better balanced. Anyone can do it, and no equipment is necessary as this is done sitting comfortably in a chair. Apurva Puranik, a Sahaja Yoga Meditation practitioner since 2005, will lead this session. Selma" focuses on a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement, specifically the marches that aimed to secure equal voting rights for African Americans. The film highlights the struggles faced by activists, including Dr. King, as they confront violent opposition and systemic racism in their quest for justice.
