Art Class: Zinnia Flowers Inspired by Artist Clementine Hunter (Ages 6&7)

Monday, February 12, 2024

Clementine Hunter is one of Louisiana’s most famous artists and one of America’s great artists specializing in folk art. Hunter was a self-taught painter. She started to paint in her 50s but worked as a farm laborer before. Though she sold paintings for just 25 cents in the beginning, her work was exhibited at museums and sold for thousands of dollars later in her life. Unfortunately, she was never able to attend her own museum shows because of the color of her skin. Participants will read Art from Her Heart by Kathy Whitehead which tells the life story of Clementine Hunter. They will then work freely with paints and create a still life of zinnias based on the art of Clementine Hunter. Parkland Library card required to register. To register visit www.cityofparkland.org or call (954)757-4207.
