VPK Registration For 2008/2009 School Year Begins On March 1st

It’s time for Broward County families to take advantage of the FREE Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program! Parents of all eligible 4-year-old children are invited to enroll them in VPK, which builds upon and supports the early learning lessons parents introduce in the home as their children’s first teachers.

On March 1st, hundreds of parents of eligible four year-olds children set out to community application sites to register for the VPK School Year 2008/2009 program. This program consists of 540 instructional hours and is for children born between September 2, 2003 and September 1, 2004 and whose parents do not plan on having them participate in the Summer 2009 VPK program. Parents should keep in mind that registration for VPK is ongoing and additional application sites and schedules will be posted via www.elcbroward.org on a continual basis. There are an unlimited number of certificates and all eligible four year-olds who register will receive one.

Parents of children born between September 2, 2002 and September 1, 2003 can begin registering for the Summer 2008 VPK program on March 17, 2008. The summer program consists of 300 program hours and just like the school year program, is a great initiation to readiness skills for children entering kindergarten in August.

To register for VPK, parents need to bring proof of the child’s age and proof of Florida residency to a designated community application site location. Upon registration, parents will receive a Certificate of Eligibility which can be used to enroll their children in a program with one of the approved providers. For a schedule of VPK registration locations or general questions please visit http://www.elcbroward.org/vpk.aspx or call the VPK Hotline at 1-866-YOU-4-VPK (1-866-968-4875).
