Parkland City Update
Department: City Administration
Posted April 23, 2007The City of Parkland Now Allows Temporary Sun Shade Canopies In Parks
In an effort to respond to resident requests, the City of Parkland will now allow temporary sun-shade canopies within the City’s Parks under certain circumstances. The City’s code formerly prohibited all tents within the parks. It is the City of Parkland’s hope that this amendment lessens the chances of heat stroke, heat exhaustion and assists with the prevention of Skin Cancer.
As long as the sun shade meets the following conditions, it will be permitted:
- All sun shades must be open sided, no larger than ten feet by ten feet and no items may be hung from the sun shade.
- They must be securely fashioned to the ground using tent stakes.
- They can not be erected earlier than thirty minutes prior to a scheduled activity start time.
- Placement is limited to the sidelines of athletic fields during scheduled City recognized events.
- Sun shades may not impede the visibility of other spectators.
- Sun shades can not be attached to any structures or placed directly next to any permanent or temporary structures.
However, please consider the weather conditions when utilizing a sun shade i.e. if too windy do not bring the sun shade. City of Parkland Park Rangers are available to assist you. If you have any further questions please contact the City of Parkland Leisure Services Department at (954) 753-5040.
