City Commission Meeting Cancelled
The City of Parkland City Commission Meeting scheduled for December 18th has been cancelled.  The next City Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.


Mayor’s Top Teen Program Deadline This Friday

The City of Parkland is a community that values teens and promotes the positive impact they have in our City. This year the City of Parkland will once again honor a Parkland resident that stands out among the rest of his/her fellow students with the Top Teen Award. Students in the 9th, 10th, and or 11th grade may be nominated for this award. This program seeks nominees who have overcome obstacles and are good role models to other students and the community. Teachers, friends, counselors, clergy, and family members with the exception of parents, may nominate students they feel represent these values.  All Parkland students (public, private, and homeschooled) who meet the guidelines may be nominated to take part in this opportunity.  To download the application please click this link.  The application deadline is Friday, December 20, 2013.


Vote Online For Your Favorite Decorated Parkland Home

Submissions are in for the City of Parkland’s House Decorating Contest, and make sure to vote for your favorite decorated Parkland home.  Voting will end on December 19th. City of Parkland Annual Scholarship Applications Now Available

The City of Parkland annually awards scholarships to Parkland residents for post-secondary education.  The scholarship is in recognition of outstanding community or civic service.  This scholarship is made possible through The City of Parkland, the Parkland Education Advisory Board and the Parkland Teen Advisory Group and is open to all Parkland students in public school, private school or homeschool students.  The completed application and all supporting materials must be received by 4:00pm on January 31, 2014. Saturday, December 21st 1:00pm

Oil billionaire Happer sends Mac to a remote Scotish villiage to secure the property rights for an oil refinery they want to build. Mac teams up with Danny and starts the negotiations, the locals are keen to get their hands on the 'Silver Dollar' and can't believe their luck. However a local hermit and beach scavenger, Ben Knox, lives in a shack on the crucial beach which he also owns. Happer is more interested in the Northern Lights and Danny in a surreal girl with webbed feet, Marina. Join the City of Parkland’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and become a leader in your community. Create the programs and experiences you would like to see offered in Parkland for teens. TAG meetings and activities are for students aged 14-18 years old and a great opportunity to help plan social events and obtain leadership skills while receiving volunteer service hours. Throughout the school year training classes will be held on CPR, first aid, fire extinguisher usage and more. The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department and the Northwest Medical Center present Adult Open Lawn Croquet.  This activity is held the third Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 11:30am in Pine Trails Park, 10555 Trails End, at field #5. Croquet is a fantastic way to get outdoors, meet up with friends old and new, get a little exercise and socialize all together. Beginners and advanced players are welcome. Participants should wear flat shoes and bring water and sunscreen. Shed all that holiday weight and start off the new year right by walking! The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department has a seven-month walking program sponsored by Northwest Medical Center.  This program aids participants in walking their way to an overall better fitness level and quality of life. The group meets on the first and third Friday each month at 9:00am, alternating monthly between Pine Trails and Terramar Parks. The program is free of charge and open to all aged 21 and over (no strollers please). Advanced registration is required; however you may join at any time. Healthy Lifestyles is a series of classes held quarterly on the first Wednesday of the month from 1:00-2:00pm in the activity room at Parkland City Hall. These educational classes are for adults 21 years of age and older and promote healthy living from a holistic approach. This quarter’s class, sponsored by Northwest Medical Center , features Clinical Dietitian Rita Hardy who will enlighten us on “Kicking Off Your New Year Eating Healthy".  This fun packed activity is designed to clarify and build understanding of the food portion sizes needed in order for you to be the healthiest you can be. Complimentary sandwiches, salads, desserts and assorted beverages will be served. Registration can be done over the phone, by e-mail or in person at the Parkland Amphitheater. Senior Grant Class: Fire Extinguisher Training

Ever worry what you would do if you had a fire in the house? This is a great opportunity to learn how to use a fire extinguisher as well as go over terrific tips in order to be better prepared and avoid future accidents or emergencies. We will learn straight from experts at Coral Springs Fire Department and participants will be able to handle a fire extinguisher and put out a real fire to be sure to get the feel of it. This program is free of charge for Parkland residents aged 62 and over who are currently registered with Parks & Recreation. Snowfest

The City of Parkland, Marrecau & Rodriguez Orthodontics, North West Medical Center and the Goddard School is excited to bring back Snowfest at Terramar Park on January 26, 2014 from 11:00am-2:00pm. There will be 10 tons of snow, an outdoor skating rink, a 30 foot snow slide, food trucks and more! This event is open to Parkland residents only and space is limited.  Pre-registration begins on Monday, December 30, 2013 and ends on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2:00pm. Registration can be done online through Web Trac on the City of Parkland website www.cityofparkland.org or in person at the Parkland Amphitheater.
