Access: Novelist & Novelist (K-8)Novelist & Novelist (K-8)

Ever wonder what to read next?  Need to know the next book in a Series?  What would be a good book for my teenager to read?  Novelist is the way to go!  Young Adult & Adult Readers can find the perfect novel with this reader's advisory service. Elementary and Junior High students (Grades K through 8th) can additionally access over 35,000 fiction in Novelist K-8.

Novelist Screen ShotNovelist contains materials for all ages including picture books, children's "chapter" books, young adult titles and books for adult readers. With over 120,000 fiction titles in the database, 90,000 full text reviews, this database is updated monthly and integrates information from a variety of sources. It contains full-text reviews for adult, young adult, children's and easy fiction titles from several journals, including: Booklist, School Library Journal, Library Journal and Publishers Weekly. In addition to these reviews, there are annotations and summaries, and all of them are searchable!

NoveList also contains over 1,200 pre-constructed booklists on a wide range of topics and genres. These lists are excellent sources for handouts or book displays. Contained as part of "Explore Fiction" and "Best Fiction" sections, these lists are also a great starting point for your readers who are browsers. If you are interested in locating books written in the same style as your favorite you can also run a Read-alikes search.

Here are some additional examples of how Novelist and Novelist (K-8) can be used:

  • A high school student enjoyed John Grisham’s The Chamber. The school librarian uses NoveList to find similar books for her.
  • A fifth grade teacher wants to make topics such as immigration to the United States more relevant to his students. He searches NoveList to find books from a young immigrant's point of view.
  • A fourth grade teacher needs a list of historical fiction about the United States Civil War that is appropriate for her students. She finds several suitable books using NoveList
  • A kindergarten teacher is teaching a unit on the seasons. She would also like to use this lesson to reinforce basic reading and listening skills. Searching NoveList, she finds books on seasons to read aloud to the class.
