Kids Info Bits
Promote your child's interest in life long learning by accessing Kids Info Bits through the Parkland Library!
Kids Info Bits meets the research needs of students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. It features a developmentally appropriate, visually graphic interface, a subject-based topic tree search and full-text, age-appropriate, curriculum-related magazine, newspaper and reference content for information on current events, the arts, science, health, people, government, history, sports and more. The database gives children access to 60 magazines, reference books and newspaper articles.
It is graphic driven – easy to use! Categories include Animals, Plants, People, Geography, Science and Math, Stories and Literature, History and Social Studies, Transportation, Inventions and Technology, Health, Arts and Entertainment and Sports. Students can also run a search using a Topic Tree or browse a Subject Guide. The Advance Search screen allows the added flexibility of narrowing your search to specific fields including title/headline, author, subject, full-text, date of publication or a specific source such as a magazine or reference work.
Kids Info Bits also comes equipped with a Backpack. You can use it to save documents of interesting in order to create a bibliography or search list. In addition to saving documents you can also set up a predefined search using Info Marks. Its a great way tracking the latest articles that are posted to the database on a topic of interest.
You can also search the Merriam-Webster's Elementary Dictionary using Kids Info Bits. Other popular reference sources that can be browsed using this database include:
