Health and Wellness Resources and Alternative Medicine Module
Health & Wellness Resource Center is a comprehensive resource for libraries, schools, and hospitals that provides integrated access to medical, health, and wellness information. For information on alternative topics such as herbal remedies, yoga, homeotherapy, midwifery, chiropractic use and more, this is your answer!
Appropriate for all levels of researchers, this one stop resource includes a collection of general interest and fitness magazines, medical and professional journals and pamphlets and reference texts. The Resource Center is useful for finding magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, and information on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, Prescription Drugs, Herbal remedies, and alternative or complementary treatments, etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases. Additionally, consumers, students, and professionals are provided with descriptions of and links to several pertinent Web sites, selected for their usefulness and appropriateness.
The database is fairly simple to search. You can run a keyword search against either full-text articles or a referred publication that was published within a specified date range. The Advanced Search screen allows you to search for a title, author or subject keyword and the first 100 words in every document for your term or phrase.
One of the nice features of this service is that "See Also" references are provided so you can easily additional information that might be relevant to a topic you are viewing.
The Health and Wellness Resources and Alternative Medicine Module comes equipped with a number of reference sources for researching health related issues. It includes:
- The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine which is useful for locating diseases and medical conditions.
- Mosby's Medical, Nursing, & Allied Health Dictionary.
- Access to the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Health for diseases diagnosis and information on medical conditions.
- A section on drugs and herbal supplements which browses the online versions of the PDR Family Guide to Prescription Drugs, PDR Family Guide to Over-the-Counter Drugs and the PDR Family Guide to Natural Medicines and Healing Therapies.
- A directory of medical and health related organizations organized by geographic location. The directory includes: (1) Agencies, organizations, schools; (2) Journals, newsletters, publishers and Web sites; and (3) Hospitals and health care facilities, programs, and special care.
- The ability to browse the latest news or search the newspaper database for health-related stories and clinical trials.
The material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only. Especially useful for consumers and health care professionals.
