Special Events
Our many programs for children and adults are publicized in the library, on the web page, and in the various Parkland-specific publications. Most require registration in advance and are limited to city residents.
The Library additionally hosts a monthly Book Discussion and offers regularly scheduled Children's Programs and Computer Classes. (See pages for details.)

- Gardening: The Right Plants for Your Fall Garden

It is the time of year is when most people are choosing and planting their bedding plants. Sherri Barbera, Vice-President of the Parkland Garden Club and owner of a gardening business called My Florida Garden Coach, "Advice for the Do-It-Yourself Gardener" will present a program about "Selecting the Right Bedding Plants for your Fall Garden". - Teen Poetry Workshop: Rap vs. Poetry
TUE September 23rd at 6:00 PM
Join Ray Dominguez from The Write Side Poets for a workshop that compares Tupac to Shakespeare, Latifah to Giovanni. Students will read and hear that the spoken word has not changed…as the word is still the word, generation after generation. Bring your Rap Poetry and share it with others. Ages 13 and up. - Teen Vampire Book Club At The Parkland Library

Celebrate Teen Read Week!! Join us for a book discussion featuring the newest novel in the exciting Twilight series, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight tempted the imagination. New Moon made readers thirsty for more. Eclipse turned the saga into a worldwide phenomenon. And now, the book that everyone has been waiting for....Breaking Dawn, the final book in the Twilight Saga, will take your breath away. Children's Programs
- Reader’s Ring Book Group (5th & 6th grades)
TUE September 16th at 6:30 PM
Join us for our bi-monthly book chat for fifth and sixth graders. The book selection for this month is The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. We will talk about the book and eat a snack. Reserve your copy at the Parkland Library today. Registration required. (954) 757-4200
- Chess Club
Game Dates: September 17th, October 1st, November 12th & 19th at 4:00 PM
Tournament Dates: October 15th at 4:00 PM
Parkland Chess Club is for adults of all ages and children, ages 8 and up. Beginners can learn to play and players meet your match! Children must have participated in at least one Chess Club meeting to enter the tournament.
- Fall into Autumn Storytime and Craft
MON September 22nd at 3:30 PM
Celebrate the first day of Autumn at the library with a fun fall craft. We will make cute scarecrow buckets and hear a special story. Ages 8 and up. Registration required.

- The Witching Hour: Halloween Storytime (Kids 8 & up)

- Halloween Storytime (Ages 3-7)
THU October 16th at 3:30 PMCome in costume and celebrate Halloween with spooky stories and songs. Bring a trick or treat bag and collect candy as we trick or treat throughout the library. Children ages 3 and up unaccompanied by adults are welcome for storytime. Little spooks 2 and under are invited to trick or treat with the group after the stories.
