Computer Classes
O
pen to Adults & Young Adults Grades 6 and up.

Computer Basics (1 ½ hours).
This is a hands-on introductory class for people with little or no experience using an IBM PC. Topics covered include:
  • An overview of the basic components of a computer, including hardware vs. software, input vs. output; storage; the CPU and a typical setup for a personal PC.
  • A look inside the computer, including an overview of memory, speed and storage capacity.
  • How to increase the speed of your hard drive. Attendees will clean-up a hard drive by running Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup Utility. Attendees will also learn how to schedule tasks.
  • How to open, close, minimize and maximize Windows.
  • An overview of the Windows Desktop. Attendees will practice changing Desktop Settings, such as background color, icon and font sizes, setting up a Desktop Theme and installing Wallpaper. Attendees will learn how to arrange icons on the desktop and enhance the life of their monitor by setting up a Screen Saver.
  • An overview of the Start Menu. Attendees will learn how to open programs using the Start Menu and view and clear the Document History.
  • An overview of how to access printer, mouse and network/dial-up settings through the Control Panel. Topics discussed include how to use a keyboard and a mouse, and different methods of establishing an Internet Connection.
  • How to Open, Save and Print a file.
  • An overview of how to Copy and Paste.
