Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few things you might like to know about the library. Please ask us for any information we haven’t covered.

Library Materials:

  • Loan Period 3 weeks. Except, new best sellers and book discussions - 2 weeks; and magazines and DVDs – 1 week.
  • Renewals One additional week (7 days) if not on reserve, except for magazines 2 renewals allowed. In person, by phone or by website.
    • Renewals Online via Website -
      • Click on SIGN IN to log on using your User ID/library card number and your password
        (last 4 digits of your telephone number).
      • Click on MY ACCOUNT tab.
      • Click on CURRENT TRANSACTIONS.
      • Click on renew button next to the item.
  • Limit on books 10 books per patron’s card. Except, 2 best sellers, 2 children’s non-fiction on the same topic, or 2 holiday books.
  • DVDs 4 per family (not per card).
  • Magazines Current issue not available for circulation. All issues kept for 1 year, except for business and selected magazines for 3 years.

Returned Materials:

  • Returns There is a green, drive-up book drop in the library’s north parking lot that is available 24 hours a day for returns.
  • DVDs DO NOT return in book drop.

    We are not part of the Broward County Library system. Only Parkland materials to
    be returned here. Materials returned to Broward County libraries will result in overdue fines.

Reserving Materials:

Patrons may reserve an item currently checked out in person or by website. When it is available the patron will be notified.
The patron will have 1 week to pick up the item, except 4 days for bestsellers/book discussion.

Fines:

  • Materials .20 cents per day per item. Maximum is $5.00/book.
  • DVDs $1.00/day. Maximum is $10.00/DVD.

Interlibrary Loans:

If we don’t own it We can borrow books or articles from other libraries. Ask at the circulation desk.

Computers:

  • Our Internet computers are high-speed T1 lines. You must sign in to use them.
    Note: our children’s computers have internet filters.
  • Computer catalog Accessible from home and in the library via the web page. We have many research databases for homework, information or entertainment. Use your library card number to access them.
  • Wireless Access We also have wireless access in the building if you bring your own computer.

Copying/Printing:

  • 10 cents per page, except from the catalog (free).
  • Printing from the library’s computers is on the honor system.

Programs:

Our programs for children and adults are publicized in the library, on the website, and in the various Parkland-specific publications.

Child Safety and Behavior:

  • Children under the age of 12 must not be left unattended. If parent or caregiver cannot be located, law enforcement will be called.
  • Library Manners Please make sure children understand that library manners require that they behave with consideration for other library patrons: using soft ‘indoor’ voices, not running, sharing computers when the library is busy, and being respectful of books so that everyone can enjoy them.

Facility Rules:

  • Food and drink are NOT allowed in the library.
  • Cell phone usage should be respectful of the library’s atmosphere.

Parkland Library Public Bulletin Policy:

  • The Parkland Library has a public bulletin board which is available for community use. The board is a public service and is subject to the following rules:
    • Eligibility to use
      Use of the bulletin board is available to Parkland Library cardholders. The material to be posted must be non-commercial. Acceptable materials include local* events such as charity fundraisers or announcements of new businesses (within 60 days of opening). Public service announcements from City, County or State agencies are also permitted.

    • Responsibilities of users
      The item/s to be posted must be submitted to a staff member. A contact phone number must be supplied (it can be written on the back). It will be reviewed and marked with a removal date. A staff member will post the material within 24 hours.

      Materials may be posted for no more than a month, subject to space availability. Cardholders may post materials no more than 4 times per year.

      If the material is to be returned, the responsible party must make arrangements to retrieve the item within 2 working days of its removal.

    • Prohibited activities
      Activities which incur a fee, such as babysitting or tutoring are prohibited. Entry fees for fundraisers (such as golf tournaments) are permitted. Items that are purely advertising are prohibited.

    • Denial of future use
      Failure to comply with any of the conditions stated above will result in the denial of future use of the bulletin.

  • Local events are those that take place in Parkland, Coral Springs, Coconut Creek or Boca Raton.
