The City of Parkland seeks a Superintendent for the Public Works Department to be responsible for the administrative, supervisory, and technical duties as it pertains to Public Works activities.
As Public Works Superintendent:
Schedule and supervise the daily activities of the Public Works field staff. Engaged in a variety of activities including management, maintenance, repair, and construction of city facilities, landscaping, streets, fleet, stormwater, and grounds.
Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
Perform inspections of Public Works projects.
Investigate complaints by residents and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies.
Prepare analyses and recommendations for Public Works projects.
Prepares detailed reports and records of Public Works activities.
Manages divisional budget.
Performs other duties that may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:
High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree or technical certification preferred.
Knowledge of budgetary development, administration, and control.
Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and equipment used in modern Public Works project administration.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes related to public improvement projects and developments.
Knowledge of facilities management and application of this knowledge to maintenance and repairs.
Five (5) years related experience in a supervisory capacity.
Possess a valid state of Florida Class “B” CDL driver’s license with an acceptable driving record or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Ability to establish attainable goals, objectives and work plans, to supervise and motivate subordinates to achieve goals and objectives in a timely and effective manner.
Ability to communicate to employees oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate a computer using Word, Outlook, and any other appropriate program.
Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, consultants and contractors, and the general public.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to effectively and accurately communicate orally and in written form, including good spelling and grammatical skills.
Must be able to perform and/or manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities concurrently.
Must be efficient, a self-starter, an independent worker and possess good work habits.
Ability to lift or move heavy objects for short and long distances.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse environmental conditions.
Performing routine maintenance on facilities and equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
The work environment is generally outside where exposure to the hot sun and outdoor elements will occur.
The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, lift, bend, stoop, talk, and hear. The employee is required to walk, use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel objects, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, and push and pull heavy objects.
