Description:

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and preparation of City parks and special events.  

  • Performs a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks related to athletic field preparation and maintenance.
  • Setup and chalking of all ball fields including soccer, baseball, softball, football and lacrosse.
  • Setup, cleanup and breakdown of all City sponsored, privately permitted and athletic league events.
  • Placement and removal of field tarps daily.
  • Distribution, monitoring and collection of athletic/sports equipment.
  • Assisting leagues during play may as may be necessary from time to time.
  • Routine inspection of playground equipment.
  • Operates a variety of machines and tools. 
  • Daily custodial duties to include but not limited to restrooms, trash, etc.
  • Requisitions materials and equipment and keeps simple records of usage.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair work on equipment and machinery used.
  • May supervise the activities of employees assigned to assist in the performance of Parks & Recreation tasks.
  • Additional tasks as directed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the general public.
  • A person in this position must be able to walk, sit, climb ladders, kneel, bend, reach, push and or pull, lift and lower, handle, feel and grasp tools and equipment and make minor repairs.
  • Must be able to read instructions, write simple reports, visually determine that work is being done correctly, differentiate colors, and hear instructions given in a quiet or noisy environment
  • Must be able to move and / or carry heavy objects for short and long distances.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual to perform the essential functions of this position.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year experience preferred.
  • May be required to operate trucks, power and hand tools and safety equipment.
  • Possess a valid state of Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices of athletic field maintenance and set up.
  • Knowledge of the occupational safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of routine preventative maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning practices
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools, materials and equipment used to maintain athletic fields.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Ability to perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the general public.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to permit working overhead, and with equipment or objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to read instructions, write simple reports, visually determine that work is being done correctly, differentiate colors, and hear instructions given in a quiet or noisy environment.
