Make a Splash, READ! Summer Reading Club
June 14 - August 9
Every child age 2 years through 5th grade will receive a “goodie bag” for registering for the library’s “Make a Splash, READ!” summer reading club. The children keep a reading log of books they have read to earn prizes all summer. The more books you read the more prizes you get! You must be a Parkland Library card holder to participate.

Make Waves at the Parkland Library" Summer Reading Club
for Middle School & High School Kids
June 14 thru August 9
Join our summer reading club and get free stuff! Read the books on your summer reading list or read whatever you want. What to do: Register at the Parkland Library and get a gift and reading log. Read two books, bring in your log and get a prize. Check out more books, read more and get more prizes. Turn in your completed reading log (six books total) by August 9 and you could win a grand prize too. Take a break this summer and visit the Parkland Library. Pirate Day at the Library

Ahoy maties! Come aboard the Parkland Library pirate ship wearing your pirate attire or shipwrecked outfit. Hear pirate stories, search for buried treasure, and make a pirate craft.

Creative Kids: Summer Story and Sand Art (age 8 and up)
Wednesday, July 21 3:00pm
Listen to a summer story. Then become an artist and create a masterpiece using colored sand instead of crayons or paint. Registration required.
Make a Splash Movie: Ponyo
Monday, July 26 10:00am
Loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid," Ponyo is a magical celebration of innocent love and the fragile beauty of the natural world. The daughter of the sea goddess Gran Mamare and the alchemist Fujimoto, Ponyo begins life as an adventurous little goldfish. She goes in search of adventure and meets Sosuke, a good-natured 5-year-old who lives by the sea. (Ages 3 and up, parents must accompany children) Registration required.
Fun and Learning: Dental Hygiene (ages 5 and up)

Betsy G. Carlen from Taylor Orthodontics will teach children the importance oral hygiene and nutrition. She will emphasize the importance of taking care of your teeth and gums. She will also discuss nutrition and “detergent” foods that help clean teeth when you can’t brush. Each child who participates will receive a goody bag filled with surprises. Registration required.
End of Summer Ice Cream Social
Monday, August 9 2:00pm
End your summer with a splash at the library! Create your own ice cream sundae and create a seaworthy craft. Try our water ball toss game and get a fishy tattoo. Then line up to meet our super splashy special guest! Bring your camera and autograph book! This event is sponsored by TD Bank. Ages 2 and up. Registration required.
Creative Kids: Story and Craft Mix Up (Age 8 and up)

Tales to Tails with Leyna and Elvis
Tuesday, August 10th 3:00pm
Come to the Parkland Library and read to Leyna and Elvis. Children can gain confidence in their reading skills by reading to a pet therapy dog and miniature horse. This program is for children 5 to 12 years old. Registration required.
Fairytale Theater Puppet Show
Wednesday, August 11th 2:00pm
Enter the library’s world of make believe with stories, songs and an exciting puppet show. Ages 3 and up. Registration required.
Cool Off with A Good Book
Monday, August 16th 2:00pm
Join other middle and high school kids at the library and chat about your favorite book of the summer. Choose a free brand new book for coming and make your own ice cream creation. (Middle & High School kids only) Registration required.
Game Day (Age 5 and up)
Tuesday, August 17th 1:30pm
Meet old friends or make new ones and have fun playing board games at the library. Registration required.
