Caryn Gardner-Young has been City Manager of Parkland since 2007. She joined the City in February 2005 as the Planning and Zoning Director and was promoted to Development Services Director in December 2005 and to Assistant City Manager in February 2006. Prior to joining Parkland, Caryn served as a lawyer in Illinois representing condominium and homeowners associations for over twelve years. She began her career in public service as a Senior Planner for the City of Greenacres and was promoted to Zoning Administrator. After two years at Greenacres, Ms. Gardner-Young advanced her career to the Village of Wellington starting off as a Principal Planner and ending her career there as the Planning and Zoning Director to join Parkland.Caryn earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Geography from the State University of New York at Binghamton and holds a Master’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University as well as a Jurist Doctorate from DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Gardner-Young’s planning experience has been recognized by her being named a Certified Planner from the American Institute of Certified Planners. Caryn’s professional affiliations include the International City/County Management Association, Florida City/County Management Association, Broward City/County Management Association, American Planning Association, and Florida Planning Association.
