Q: How can I speak to an inspector about a scheduled inspection?A: Inspectors can be reached at the Building Department Telephone Number between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. This is the time to cancel a scheduled inspection, or to make a specific appointment for a scheduled inspection. [Back To Top]
Q: How can I speak to an inspector about some other issue?
A: Please call at any time to speak with an Administrative Assistant regarding an inspector’s scheduled office hours; you can leave a voice-mail message, or you can speak with the Chief Inspector for more immediate assistance. [Back To Top]
Q: How do I know what inspections are required for my project?
A: The Building Department staff can assist you in customizing your inspection list specific to your project. This will enable you to use the Automated Inspection Request System with the maximum benefit. [Back To Top]
Q: How can I schedule an inspection?
A: You can use our Automated Inspection Request System to schedule an inspection by using your touch-tone telephone. Inspections requested by 4:30 PM will be scheduled for the next business day. For complete instructions, please see the AIRS brouchure. Alternatively, you can use our telephone voice-mail system, requesting prior to 3:00 PM for a next-business-day inspection. This method does not give you a confirmation that the inspection is actually scheduled. [Back To Top]
Q: I had an inspection scheduled, but an inspector did not show up. Why?
A: The inspection may not have been scheduled if you used the voice-mail system, which does not give you a confirmation. The reason may be that the Contractor’s Certificate is not active, or that the permit has expired, or that a prerequisite inspection has not been approved. Please remember to use the AIRS system to get confirmation that an inspection has been properly scheduled. [Back To Top]
Q: How can I find out the results of a scheduled inspection?
A: The permit card posted on the job site is your record of inspection approvals. If an inspection is not approved, the inspector leaves a “red tag” on the permit board. Your duplicate copy of this document lists code sections and a brief description of the violation(s). Or, you can use the AIRS system to confirm inspection approval or rejection.
[Back To Top]Q: What if I have trouble scheduling an inspection with the AIRS system?
A: Technical support for this system is available from any Administrative Assistant daily from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please remember that a specific inspection must be “loaded” into your permit in order for you to schedule it via AIRS. Please visit the Building Department and speak with an AA to “customize” your inspection list for your benefit. [Back To Top]
