About The Task Force
At the April 1, 2009 City Commission meeting, over a hundred residents were in attendance and many expressed their concerns with the installation of Chinese Drywall in their houses by their developer. Recognizing that this issue is a life changing event for the City residents affected, the City Commission created a Task Force consisting of residents and a City of Parkland Building employee who were instructed to provide a fact finding report to the City Commission. The report is to determine where and how many houses within Parkland are affected so the extent of the Chinese Drywall problem is known. It is the City Commission’s intention to take this report and petition state and federal legislators to obtain help for the affected residents.
The City has created this page to update our residents with the latest information about Chinese Drywall. This issue is fluid and changing everyday. This web page serves as a clearing house for questions that you may have if you think your home may have been constructed with drywall made in China.
The Building Division is also generating a list of all Parkland homes constructed from late 2003 to 2007 to get a better idea of what Parkland communities are likely affected. In the interim, the City will be reaching out to each community and subdivision by contacting elected HOA representatives and other designated persons so they can notify their communities and also request that affected residents take the Online Questionnaire (see below).
REMINDER: Homeowners who wish to pay for any proposed “quick fixes” are reminded that most repairs will require a City permit.
DISCLAIMER: The City of Parkland can not offer any legal advise concerning this issue. Residents seeking legal advised are encouraged to consult an attorney.
IMPORTANT: All City Buildings and Schools in the City of Parkland were not constructed with Chinese Drywall. [More Info]

Chinese Drywall Questionnaire
[Click Here To Take The Survey]
The City is asking all affected homeowners to complete an online survey. The data that is collected from both the online survey and feedback from HOA representatives and designated contacts will be compiled and presented to the City Commission for consideration to address your concerns.
The information the City is gathering has been requested by several government agencies and will be useful in helping the City determine the extent of the problem within our communities. In order to complete the survey you will need to provide the following:
- The name of your builder/developer.
- The year your residence was built.
- Information about whether any persons in your home may have had adverse health issues that you believe may have been caused by Chinese Drywall.
- Whether you have contacted your builder, insurer and lender and what responses have been received.
- The names of your lenders and insurers.
- Whether you intend to vacate your residence.
Residents who do not have access to a computer can receive a paper copy of the survey from the Building Division by visiting City Hall at 6600 University Drive. For further information regarding the Chinese Drywall Questionnaire please contact the Building Division at (954) 753-5447.

For Families That Are Temporarily Relocating Because Of Chinese Drywall In Their Home
Homestead Exemption And Valuation
To protect your homestead exemption on your home (exemption is only applicable if you are living in your primary residence) you will need to contact the Broward County Property Appraisers Office at (954) 357-6830. They will need some documentation of Chinese Drywall in your home. The preferred documentation is a letter or e-mail from the Florida Department of Health confirming that your home meets the criteria for Chinese Drywall. They will then code your home to reflect that you have Chinese Drywall and thereby protect your homestead exemption while you are temporarily living elsewhere. The coding may also be used in the future to reduce the taxes you pay on the home until it is remediated.
Keeping Children In Same School After The Move
To keep your children in the same public schools if you temporarily relocate outside the school boundary because of Chinese Drywall in your home you will need to contact the Broward County School Board. The School Board has approved an automatic reassignment for children displaced by Chinese drywall. Parents need to apply through the reassignment process and put as the reason "displaced due to Chinese Drywall.” Both School Z and Park Trails are under-enrolled so there is room for those students to remain/come back if they are displaced. School reassignments will take place between May 1st and June 15th. Requests received after June 15th will not be considered. Go to browardschools.com click on School Info and then on Reassign My Child to Another School. Transportation will not be provided for children who are reassigned.
