Parkland Educational Initiatives

Mayor's Top Teen
The City of Parkland is a community that values teens and promotes the positive impact they have in our city. This year the City of Parkland will once again honor a Parkland resident that stands out among the rest of his fellow students with the Top Teen Award. Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade may be nominated for this award. This program seeks nominees who have overcome obstacles and are good role models to other students and the community. Teachers, friends, counselors, clergy, and family members with the exception of parents, may nominate students they feel represent these values.

All Parkland students (public, private, and homeschooled) who meet the guidelines may be nominated to take part in this opportunity.
Applications can be found by clicking this link.
Scholarship Opportunity
An annual scholarship for post-secondary City of Parkland students is made possible through The City of Parkland and the Parkland Education Advisory Board. The scholarship is in recognition of outstanding community or civic service.
SAT College Board Exam
Part of the City of Parkland’s Educational Initiatives is to work directly with schools located within the City to improve educational programs and increase student achievement by providing additional resources to established programs and State testing requirements. The City’s partnership with the schools assist in not only increasing the number of students that can participate in these programs, but also help support and ensure that Parkland Schools maintain their top quality rated education.

The SAT’s are the nation’s most widely used college admission exam. The City of Parkland is able to partner with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and offer all Juniors planning on attending college free SAT College Board Exam preparation assistance. Students are able to sign up and take the prep exams as many times as they wish until they are satisfied with their score. Prep exams are held on select Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the MSD campus.
